The Mechanical Engineering department is the largest in South Africa with 1400 students (of which 200 are post-graduate) and produces about a quarter of the country’s mechanical engineers. The department has strong research activities in thermofluids, dynamics and vibration as well as vehicle dynamics.

MEGARIDE as an innovative SME plays an important role in the collection of experimental data on the final project phases. Its measurement technologies and equipment will make possible tyre tests that results are important for the corner design. In addition, the MEGARIDE staff will provide training on vehicle testing and tyre modelling for incom-ing staff.
